How to use this calculator

  1. Select your resignation date and notice period.
  2. Choose calendar days or working days.
  3. Add buffer days for relocation, documentation or a break.
  4. Share the estimated date with your new employer as an indicative timeline.

Formula

Last working day = Resignation date + Notice period

Earliest joining date = Last working day + 1 day + Buffer days

Worked example

Resigning on 1 June with a 60-day notice gives an estimated last working day of 31 July. With 7 buffer days, the earliest realistic joining date is 8 August.

Assumptions

  • You join the day after your notice ends, plus the buffer you enter.
  • No leave adjustment or early release is assumed.

Limitations

Onboarding batches, background verification and document checks often decide the real start date.

Your actual joining date depends on employer confirmation. Treat this as a planning estimate only.

Frequently Asked Questions

How soon can I join a new company after resigning?

At the earliest, the day after your last working day — plus any buffer you need for relocation, documents or a short break.

Should I add buffer days before joining?

A few days of buffer is common. It covers relocation, document collection, background verification follow-ups and unexpected handover extensions.

Can a new employer change my joining date?

Yes. Joining dates are confirmed by the new employer and can shift because of onboarding schedules, budget cycles or verification timelines.
