How to use this calculator

  1. Enter your old salary.
  2. Enter your new salary on the same basis — both monthly or both annual.
  3. The hike percentage and increase amount update instantly.

Formula

Hike Percentage = ((New Salary − Old Salary) ÷ Old Salary) × 100

Worked example

Old salary ₹50,000 per month, new salary ₹60,000 per month. The increase is ₹10,000. ₹10,000 ÷ ₹50,000 = 0.2, and 0.2 × 100 = a 20% hike.

Assumptions

  • Both salary values use the same period and the same components.
  • Percentages are rounded to two decimal places for display.

Limitations

A percentage on its own does not reveal how the package is structured. A high percentage on a small base can still be less money than a smaller percentage on a large base.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the hike percentage formula?

Hike Percentage = ((New Salary − Old Salary) ÷ Old Salary) × 100.

Can I use monthly salary instead of annual salary?

Yes, as long as both values are on the same basis. Two monthly figures give the same percentage as the equivalent two annual figures.

What if my new salary is lower than the old one?

The calculator shows a negative percentage, which represents a pay cut rather than a hike.
