How to use this calculator
- Enter your current annual salary or CTC.
- Enter the increment percentage from your appraisal letter.
- Review the revised salary, the raise amount and the monthly change.
- If your letter states the revised salary instead of a percentage, switch to reverse mode to find the effective increment.
Formula
Revised salary = Current salary × (1 + Increment % ÷ 100)
Increment amount = Revised salary − Current salary
Worked example
On a current salary of ₹9,00,000 with an 8% increment, the revised salary is ₹9,72,000. That is an increase of ₹72,000 a year, or about ₹6,000 a month before deductions.
Assumptions
- The increment percentage applies to the salary figure you enter.
- Any one-time bonus or retention payout is treated separately and is not included.
- The increment is assumed to apply for a full twelve-month period.
Limitations
Increment letters sometimes restructure allowances, revise variable pay targets or take effect mid-year. Those details change the actual money you receive, so read your letter carefully and confirm with HR.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a salary increment?
An increment is the raise applied to your existing salary, usually after an annual appraisal cycle. It is normally expressed as a percentage of your current CTC or fixed pay.
How is an appraisal increment calculated?
Your employer applies a rating-based percentage to your current salary. Multiplying your current salary by (1 + increment ÷ 100) gives the revised figure.
What is the difference between an increment and a promotion raise?
An increment adjusts pay within your current role and band. A promotion usually changes your band, and the raise can combine a band correction with the annual increment.
Is the increment applied to CTC or basic salary?
It depends on the employer. Many companies apply the increment to the fixed portion of CTC and then rebuild the structure around it, so the change in basic salary can differ from the headline percentage.
